Acquiring an Existing Franchise

To get involve in Franchise Businesses, it doesn?t mean that you must start from scratch by launching a franchise unit where none currently exist. But this isn’t the only way you can become a franchisee. You can search for best franchise opportunities in the market and buy an existing franchise from an owner that wants to sell it. This can happen when the owner wants to strike out in a new career direction, or when he or she wants to retire from business altogether. This can also happen when the franchisor wants to sell a company-owned unit to a franchisee and blend it into the franchise system.

Although the franchise outlet is up and running, you’ll still need to thoroughly investigate it just as you would if you were establishing your own outlet. You’ll need to fit your skills and interests to the business. You’ll need to determine why the owner is selling and what the franchise is all about. You’ll need to look at the long-range health of the business and sort out any problems that are currently plaguing the unit or the system as a whole.

On the other hand, you will also have a lot of information that you can use to your advantage. Instead of working with estimated numbers of earnings and annual sales for example, you’ll be able to see the actual financial statements before buying. You’ll also, one assumes, have an existing customer base that is familiar with your brand. You won’t have to introduce your business to the community. Acquiring an existing franchise unit is an option you can explore while seeking out information on units you’ll buy directly from the franchisor and set up in a new location. Good luck!
